There are 2 main species of fruit flies in Australia are the Queensland fruit fly and the Mediterranean fruit fly.

The Queensland fruit fly is native to to North East Australia, occurring in Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria and the NT and occasionally Canberra. It is most active from September until May. 

The Mediterranean fruit fly is native to Western and most active from October until May.
